Our Story
It started at eight years old
I fell in love with dance at eight, and I’ve never really left the dance industry since. I’ve been a dancer, a teacher, and for 19 years, the owner of my own dance school. That school began with 12 pupils and grew to over 300.
Why I started Blackfeather
Running a school, I saw the same problems every term. Costumes arrived late or not at all, uniform orders were a headache, and parents couldn’t find dancewear that was well made and still affordable. So when I sold the school, I built the supplier I’d always wished I had.
Why “Blackfeather”?
Years ago, I made two headdresses for my dancers to wear at a regional competition. They were the first creative accessories I’d ever made for my own pupils, and they were covered in black feathers. Seeing my dancers walk onto the dance floor wearing something I’d made with my own hands is a feeling I’ve never forgotten. When it came to naming the business, there was only one choice.
What makes us different
Blackfeather brings together one of the UK’s widest ranges of international dancewear brands, from everyday studio staples to stage-ready costumes, including direct imports of Weissman costumes from the USA. Every product on offer is chosen by someone who has dressed hundreds of dancers for real classes, exams and shows.
Still part of the dance world
Today I’m also a dance mum, spending Saturday mornings at the studio, buying ballet shoes and doing last-minute exam rehearsals like everyone else. That keeps Blackfeather grounded in what dancers, families and teachers actually need.
Whether you’re a school sorting uniform, a parent shopping for a first pair of ballet shoes, or a soloist after a standout costume, we’d love to help.
